meet DR. AMY

I grew up in Sturgis, Michigan and did my undergraduate studies at Alma College.  I am a 1997 graduate of the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine.  I started practicing in Portland, Oregon for two years, relocated to Chicago for a couple of years and moved back to Michigan in 2001. Upon returning to Michigan I worked in the Ann Arbor/Detroit area and eventually became a practice owner. After several years I decided that ownership was not for me, moved to Arizona and practiced there as a relief veterinarian for several years.

My family brought me back to my roots in Michigan.  I began working as an associate at the Oshtemo Veterinary Hospital in 2011 (now VCA Oshtemo Animal Hospital) and have been there ever since. For a period of time, I also operated a home euthanasia service on a referral basis.

A new focus in my life has led me to transition back into relief work and home hospice and euthanasia.

I am experienced and adept at high-quality small animal medicine, surgery, and dental care.  My communication skills are excellent and I strive to treat each client as personally as possible.  While I always offer the gold standard of care, I am aware and care about the quality of life of both the pet and the pet owners.  My goal is to work with them to find the best care and treatment for their fur baby that is within their means.

I strive to educate every client within the time I am allotted to keep your hospital running as smoothly as possible.  I can readily learn to work with your system and methods for records, billing, prescriptions, and estimates. Flexibility and an efficient manner with an easygoing, friendly nature should allow me to quickly blend into your practice and keep your clients and staff happy.

My services include home hospice consultation for pain management,  quality of life care for terminal patients that can no longer travel, and in-home euthanasia on a referral basis.  I prefer to work in conjunction with the client’s regular veterinarian whenever possible.  Euthanasia services include transportation of remains to the referring veterinarian for disposal as needed.

I also work in shelter medicine and am skilled at high volume spay/neuter surgical techniques helping to control feral cat colonies and pet overpopulation.

I currently live in Bangor, Michigan, just west of Kalamazoo.  I am a member of the AVMA and MVMA and regularly attend CE meetings to stay up to date with current veterinary practices.  I am committed to delivering professional, friendly, and compassionate assistance to veterinary clinics in southwest Michigan, concentrating on the Kalamazoo and Lakeshore area.

My free time activities include traveling, biking, kayaking, and paddleboarding.  My greatest joy is being the mother to my two sons who are both in college pursuing their dreams.
